Wouldn’t it be great if you could watch your belly disappear in time for summer? Here are some simple ideas to help flatten your tummy.
- Eat raspberries. They’re filled with fibre and fight constipation which can swell your tummy like a balloon.
- Drink water regularly. It fills you up, it’s calorie-free and keeps your metabolism running in high gear.
- Skip the cocktails. Ok so alcohol may be fat-free, but it’s loaded with calories. It can also increase your level of cortisol, a stress hormone that helps your belly store fat.
- Eat quality food. Select foods that are bulky and more filling. Eat foods that are nutritionally of high quality (ie, foods that are high in fibre, low in fat and with a low Glycaemic Index (GI).
- Reduce food portions. Avoid large portions in a single sitting and make sure to chew slowly and properly.
- Clench it. Keep your stomach muscles clenched at all times to give it a constant workout, especially while you’re walking or sitting. Sit up straight with your lower back supported against the chair, shoulders back and your chin up.
- Fitball Fun. Train the deep abdominal muscles that keep your core nice and firm with some fitball situps. The fitball will keep your lower back supported while you keep your feet flat on the floor, hands crossed over your chest and your neck straight. Inhale as you lower yourself backwards without moving the ball or your legs, then exhale as you sit up again, then repeat.
